For world tour fit traditional Woods valves - they can be repaired by the roadside unlike presta or schraeder.

I’ve mentioned elsewhere on the board that my bike is German - it has Woods valves. I keep a Presta-Schrader converter on it constantly and then treat it as a Schrader valve. (I tend to buy a bag of a few of them every couple of years, they’re dirt cheap online)

Made a video. Honestly, they're super easy to use, work with any presta fitting. They're great valves.

It's the same thread as a presta valve. Any screw on adapter that fits presta fits Woods. Any push-on adapter that fits presta fits Woods.

Normally just a case of shoving it on a bit harder (and maybe holding it on in the case of a minipump). Or use a high quality tube and keep a track pump at home and you only have to top them once every few months. I have a customer who has just pumped up her Gazelle tyres for the first time since she bought the bike - over a year ago!! Schwalbe Dunlop valve tubes hold pressure remarkably well.

Most pumps won’t fit to Woods valves without the ‘old fashioned’ connector hose.

Another downside of Woods valves is that they are easy to unscrew and steal - though this is less of a problem now they are less common.

I changed my Woods valves because I couldn't get the Presta side of my micro-pump to reliably connect to them. Wonder if I was doing it wrong?

Haha. Iain, your Woods/Dunlop valve works fine with a presta pump or adaptor.

They're actually really good valves: have high air-flow, are easy to maintain and clean etc. And are much more robust than presta valves. You can blame the demise of Raleigh as a manufacturing enterprise for the demise of the Dunlop valve in the UK. They used to come on all Raleighs up until the early 90s.

I actually quite like that the Dutch/Germans still use them.

Woods / Dunlop style valves are fitted in all the Urban Arrows. In NL standard fare and even in Sweden last year the free air hoses had these.
For customers we supply an adapter to Schraeder valve. (A wee hose with brass part we get from Cycle Service who help with UA related matters - along with Harts recently. Buy the hose and remove brass part - just screw on and you have pretend Schraeder).
Normally we would just replace tubes but as the e-assisted heavyweight UA is filled with sealant the type of tube is less an issue.
Harts may have answers on this as Gazelle dealer. Non Benelux Gazelles are maybe fitted out with Schraeders and Prestas though.

any good reason for dunlop/woods valves ?

Can I get a woods to presta adapter ?

I seem to be able to get every other combination, except that.

My life was my less complicated yesterday when I was unaware these existed.
