gillies in this instance I’m married to the management.

If she tells me to do something then it might stop me riding a bike. For instance I just spent a couple of hours installing a loft ladder.

There is no valid answer for me to select. I do cycle so cant tick the I do not cycle box, It may have been better if it said I cycle in Glasgow less than once a month or do not cycle

gillies - good to hear from you. When I saw the question "To what extent do you consider it possible to travel your entire journey by bicycle?" my first thought was "What journey?", as my answer would depend on quite a few factors, including:

trip purpose
route
distance
other travel options available
availability of a safe cycle route.

I'm not sure what insight you will get into multimodality. Your last set of questions, which deal with other modes, are not linked back to the previous questions - so you will not be able to understand why people might choose to cycle to the shops but not to social events. Also, this last set of questions does not cover travel to work/education - a significant trip purpose.

I know it's probably too late to change things now, but all good experience. Good luck with the research.

hello, folks of CCE, i'm the idiot who's doing the research

Tulyar - those criteria are included if you look for them, and I made 5 years the cut off because I feel that there are diminishing returns with regards to experience after this point.

Morningsider - that question was included to gather insight into multimodality, regardless of journey type.

Ed1 - I don't feel this is a flaw in methodology, its just that I'm looking for input from people who cycle in glasgow regularly, and less than once a month ain't it.

Wee folding bike - I think we can both agree that management decisions are not a common barrier to cycling and it wouldn't have made much sense for me to include that as an option, no?

Thanks for all the people who took the time to respond and offer their feedback :)

The what would make you cycle more often question was hard to answer if you ride a bike every day.

The thing that stops me riding a bike is when the management tells me to do something else.

There is a flaw in the methodology , there is no I cycle less than once a month in Glasgow and surrounding areas. The range is once or twice a month to I don’t cycle

Hmmm - I can't see how these questions would produce any useful information.

There are also issues with individual questions, e.g. asking "To what extent do you consider it possible to travel your entire journey by bicycle?" without specifying what type of journey makes any answer meaningless.

A bit thin for my answers - didn't select any of the options on where to ride, as my key criteria - lack of hills & smoothness of surfaces not really covered.

Curious on why the cut off was for riding 5 years or more - so 55 (started serious cycling in 1964) as high a value as 5, would be interesting to see how this is analysed.

An acquaintance of mine is doing his dissertation. He is looking to hear from people who cycle in Glasgow, and his questionnaire is fairly short.
