Somewhat throwaway comment in a curious piece.

Does the writer mean if you are clipped into the pedals? Or maybe climbing a hill??

Still journalists skill is to churn out grammatically correct columns on anything and everything

The other day Suzanne Moore made a column out of transcribing Dr John Cooper Clarke’s great appearance on Desert Island Discs. She did add that Dr JCC told her Nico used to sing or hoover along to the Shake and Vac advert. [adopt heavy Germanic accents and sing speak ponderously Do. The. Shake. And. Vac. And. Put. The. Freshness. Back]

“I did, however, learn the subtle art of pushing a wheelbarrow full of rubble up a plank, to tip into a skip: take it too slowly and you’ll lose momentum and fall off, start to tip too early and you’ll never make the summit, fail to commit and you’ll get pushed back down by the weight, let self-doubt creep in and you’ll end up on the ground covered in bits of rock. The same rules, incidentally, apply to cycling.

“
