So it turns out the teams and riders were never paid expenses or prize money and the organiser has now ceased trading. This doesn't bode well for the organisation of future races.

@clairemiller There was quite a lot of folk on the climb up the Queen's Drive bit of Holyrood Park. Mainly hardcore cycling fans, given the weather forecast (the actual weather wasn't as bad as the forecast until the last lap).

Yes, always. Unfortunately my dogs would quite possibly run after elite cyclists. Whether the cyclists could keep up is another matter...

I was on Duke's Pass for the 2nd stage and the atmosphere was great. Probably several hundred people many cycle clubs and families. I was about 50m below the QOM summit, and waited about 45mins including a cloudburst. Route eS stunning and it was drying out as riders came past. Road was dry when I followed them at a reduced pace over the top. The entourage was significant, over 30 motorbikes and over a dozen official cars, plus the team vans.

Riders seemed complimentary the prize fund and better hotels than they were used to made up for the Scottish summer.

A great day out. - unfortunately the kids were in Norfolk at their grandparents, otherwise I would have taken them.

@Frenchy - dog on a lead? One of the Marshals kept having to ask a family to put theirs on one. They were alongside road and throwing sticks and claimed it would never run after elite cyclists :-)

On another theme one of our customers tweeted how disrupted bike routes were and the amount of mass parking of support vehicles on pavements.

Like most sports they use tons of fuel and energy. For every 100w of human effort there'll be kws of power used to support and broadcast. I reckon there were over 30 motorbikers - not really any other way of doing a rolling road closure although one day these may be e-motorbikes?
Each team needs support vehicle.

Is there any commercialised sport that has a low carbon footprint?

Was really disappointed to see how few people were out to watch the finish today, but having got thoroughly soaked watching the race and then the presentations, I wonder if people who stayed home were perhaps wiser than me. Either way, it was really great to watch. We had a spot about ten meters short of the finish line and it was epic to see them sprinting.

Abandoned rather than cancelled. They started out and appear to have made it past at least one climb and sprint before abandoning.

Ironically the sun is now out in Dunfermline but it was persistent heavy rain earlier.
