Very keen to rope in any parents with time/inclination to run bike related stuff. CHDot used to run a bike maintenance club in one of my schools for example. Or safe routes for taking groups of kids to the beach by bike. THe school has a fleet of bikes I understand. Also one of the teachers was BMX champ in the past?

Thanks for that, I couldn't find it on the council website.

I see they're also adding a raised table on Duncan Place. Should make that turn a bit more pleasant.

@gembo - I thought it was you outside the dockers and would have offered a high five but my bones were being shaken to pieces by the cobbles. I was indeed picking up the kids. You would make a good bike detective!

Very little in the TramsToNewhaven microsite...

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/tramstonewhaven/download/downloads/id/124/capital_road_scheme_works.pdf

The reprinted plan from the local community council is the best I can find just now:

http://www.leithlinkscc.org.uk/junction-redesign-easter-road-duke-street-lochend-road-vanburgh-place/

Duke St ped crossing moving east but Duncan Place's throat is merely being narrowed. Should be easier to go round the other side of the old academy building then across the park post-modification. It'll be interesting to see if the eight-turn gets any easier - it should be just ahead of the section where road markings beckon the traffic to split into two lanes heading up to the lights, but there'll be different bus movements and whatnot to contend with.

In the tram extension consultation I wrote at length about maintaining a safe crossing-channel for schoolpeople across Constitution St but didn't think about the Duncan Place side being worsened by the diversions.

Do you know if there are plans online for what they're doing? I've been close to getting wiped out a couple of times there by right turning drivers.

Yep, they're finally improving the crossing alongside the de-roundaboutification of the bottom of Easter Road (albeit mostly to enable controlled traffic throughput when tramworks diversions are in place), though even the lollipop-controlled crossing down by the school feels perilous when rats are running and Broughton Removals trucks are thundering down it.

They are removing the roundabout at foot of Easter Road and installing a signalised junction. Should be a fair bit safer afterwards. Not before time...

@gembo, welcome to our world. Have to deal with radgies on four and two wheels all the time. Generally try to avoid either Easter Road or Leith Walk as much as possible, but not really possible to avoid Easter Road. Top end not as bad as traffic nearly always backed up and slowed to crawling pace. Just filter past carefully watching for impatient idiots lunging out of side streets to get to the queue a fraction sooner.

"the turn from Duke St to Duncan Place"

Road closed there currently. At a glance they seemed to be building out the pavement to narrow the mouth. Perhaps wishful thinking but much needed if true.

I had heard you were going to be about. Could you just come all the way down the Water of Leith to the Sandport bridge, or do you have to go past the Central command post at Waverley?

Easter Road generally safer than Leith Walk with single-file vehicles at slower speeds but the turn from Duke St to Duncan Place is about as bad as the right turn from Constitution St to Laurie St.

Took lucky lecky bike trip down Easter road - crazy drivers, peds and deliveroo rider

Lot of resurfacing of roads aroundd the links too. Spotted @earthowned formerly of this parish, maybe heading to after school club. Saw him two years back when i was last down at same place/

On way home via leith walk, crazy favourit and other Parkers, mad drivers, mental jay walking peds. Also just eat delivery rider aimed at space between two moving cars which had right of way, to get through roundabout at start of london road.

Question how much marijuana does all of this take?
