Tiermat, I've posted in the other place with a specific suggestion, but you might also look at South Queensferry if you want to get in a decent bike ride before work. SQ would be about 10 miles to Lothian Road.

(my version of a decent commute distance is 8/9 miles)

Any preference for how hilly it should be, or how busy the route is?

Moving a few towns west of Dalkeith in Midlothian (to Loanhead or Roslin) would mean a flatter commute, with the first part of your commute is on a cycle path rather than one of the main roads into the city.

Further north (to Musselburgh, say) also gives the option of a much flatter and quieter commute on the Innocent railway path.

That's not to say that commuting to Dalkeith or Eskbank is horrible, but it might be worth bearing in mind.

Happy to describe possible commutes in more detail. Not knowledgeable at all of the housing options, though.

Looking for a long term flat share/studio appt, preferably in a decent commute distance of Port Hamilton (my version of a decent commute distance is 8/9 miles) as I am due to star a new job once the pre-employment checks are complete (2/3 weeks).

Would only need it Monday-Wednesday (though occasional full weeks would be appreciated for the family coming up to visit).

Budget, as low as poss, but probably £600pcm, inc bills.
