Did the course today - the wind was more Northerly, so the effects were felt returning from Whiteadder to Garvald and the towards Dunbar & Haddington. Had a very brief stop in Dunbar for an energy bar, but other than that just kept plodding on. Finished feeling pretty good - although the cyclist that overtook me at Longniddry Bents probably wouldn't have thought so.

Nice route though.

QR Codes are fine if you have a suitable techy phone, but for us luddites who only have phoning people/texting phones (I break to many to use expensive ones :-/ ) it could mean anything from the singlespeed owners club to friends of the daily hate(!)
Also I'd never be wearing it (the vest) at the right time :-/

Nope, but if put through the spokes they wouldn't be very visible unless parked, maybe there is an better addition/alternative for recognising CCE'ers on the move?
Or do you mean clothes-pegged to the seatstays to make a "motorbike"noise as we ride along? :-D

A CCE badge would have been handy, I think I saw your bike but I wasn't at my most observant it must be said.
I was certainly wishing for touring bike gearing on the run up to Redstane Rigg, possibly worth the extra weight just for the triple and souplate rear cogs imho!

I'm sure I'll see you sometime on another one Dave, that was my first Audax as well, and the enduring memories will be how severe hill & headwinds combined are along with tall gearing and the fact that by the end I was REALLY missing my Brooks flyer and cursing "road" saddles lol

Thanks Cyclingmollie, yes I do have a yellow eTrek on my handlebars. Its perfect for what I need it for, distance and speed, plus I can cycle off into the unknown and know I can return using the trackback feature.

Perhaps on these sorts of things we should have a badge for CCE with our name on it?

If you have a Garmin atached to your handle-bars then I passed you near the start. Doing that ride with a fully laden touring bike is a lot harder than doing it on a race bike. No wonder you were feeling it.

There are usually pictures posted on the MRCC website but that seems to be getting upgraded at the moment and most of the content is gone.

Hi, sorry forgot to post on here about this.
6.25 overall time, including stop in Dinbar for Lentil soup and a Bacon butty.

I hit a wall (not a real wall) at the Dunbar stop. I was drained. I recall standing at the counter looking at people sat at empty tables, thinking I need to sit down now or I'm going to collapes! We eventuially grabbed the table by the counter by the radiator. The 'second half' was better but the hills really zapped my energy, leaving me behind our (10.24) group. I ate better (fig rolls and jelly babies) on the second half to maintain my energy levels.

This was my first (and nearly last) Audax and was a real eye opener. I learned I need to keep munching to keep energy levels up, and I need a lighter bike having rode round on my Dawes Galaxy with 35mm Schwabe Marathon Plus tyres, rear rack and heavy box stuffed with things I didn't need, just weighing me down.

Well done everyone. We got round in the end although the first half of the ride demonstrated that SWMBO can't push a 34/25 (although she did get all the way up Redstone Rigg at about 5rpm!)

We did it in 5:57 (rolling) / 7h actual and my average HR was ~130, compared with 145 on the 200 last week. I found it difficult to bimble and let all the roadies pass unhindered!

FWIW I also had an easier ride last weekend doing 200km than I did yesterday doing half that. So a few of you should certainly be thinking about entering one of the longer rides!

I was holding my brakes in a death grip coming down towards Garvald. You never knew what kind of road surface you were going to get next. It was pretty weird, I thought, when after all that wind the road reached the A1 and everything seemed to go completely silent.

Can't remember exactly but my actual ride time was 4hrs 59 min with an average speed of 20.7kph(12 ish mph) pretty poor by my previous standards but I'll blame the weather! Nice max speed of 72.4kph (45mph) though :)

Endurance is ok but I think I really need to work on my strength now, but somehow without aggravating my 3/4 knackered knees :-/
Good workout today though!

Edited to add, I *think* my total time was 5hrs 50something, was a bit knackered to remember ;-) so it was Dave on the raptorbike? (waves), he's got the largest front chainring I think I've ever seen on that thing!

So far, everyone has been very coy about their times.....

Well this idiot didn't get a time because he lost his card! My rolling time was 4:13, I asked at the end where I "would have" come and he said 5:34. I was quite pleased with that considering stopping time for tea, the flats, the wind and riding a mile and a half too far!

...and someone did it on a recumbent.

That would be dave! I gave him a cheery "you need to get a flag, I almost didn't see you" when I passed. At least recumbents have gears. Wonder if there's a recumbentist sub-set that cycles in fixed?
