@iwrats I made a generalised statement and touring is of course different - unlike racing you're not paid to hurt yourself.

Plenty forumers adjust bikes for as much comfort as you can get from an upright format. Looking at saddle angles of general public I'm amazed what some riders put up with.
So trying to get the perfect distribution of weight on hands, rear and feet is the holy grail for longer rides. Jenny Graham got her bike built for best combo of comfort and speed for her record breaking world circuit. Despite that the pressure of even a good fit and saddle for such an event does create issues (for men and women).

The article certainly made me wonder how supportive the coaching staff involved were. If an athlete reports a chronically infected or obliterated vulva you might expect that to be taken seriously?

I mean no-one ever got recognised for.....touring more comfortably than others.

I beg to differ my friend!

One of the main points about the article is that the elite cyclist has raised the point that she had to have surgery on her genitals. (Vulva, labia and vagina all mentioned in the article). This led to other elite cyclists also making this public then the saddle manufacturer finally doing something about it.

Same manufacturer (spesh) who responded previously to erectile dysfunction suggestions and came up with a saddle split down the middle to help those with those types of genitals. As with much genital related issues the male types get the attention first.

Comfort is not a big selling point on bikes is it? I mean no-one ever got recognised for coming third in a race for having 'outcomforted' other riders. Or touring more comfortably than others.
Dutch style bikes are fairly comfortable although aerodynamically poor - hence ligfietsers started reclining more. This though is considered by some (most people?) to be uncomfortable / awkward / dangerous / too fast / too slow / too odd / etc

There is no way men would tolerate bike seats that resulted in their genitals being 'crushed into oblivion'.

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/dec/11/hannah-dines-on-going-public-with-her-labia-surgery-it-started-a-big-conversation

Difficult read in parts and a reminder that elite athletes just are not like us.
