As a pavement user I take great exception to cars being parked on the pavement especially when there is either.
1) room on the road to park
2) parking within a few 100 yards
3) a combination of 1 & 2

@acsimpson

various vans/people carriers parked outside houses they were accessing or getting the old folks from causing havoc when they could have been round the corner - What an affront.

However, Ratho main st is a kind of unbroken canyon, they would have to park over a 100yards away in the bridge inn carpark. There has been a car parked there for over two years that has not moved.

But as a road user most of the time I don't mind that pavement parking...

@bill, As a road user would you not rather they parked somewhere appropriate and walk the last little bit of their journey.

Ratho Main St became a nightmare since closing Cliftonhall Rd. In the mornings I started dodging the Main St by using a side street.

They installed a portable speed display thing at the of the hill shortly at the "20" sign but the display doesn't work any more.

On normal days a heavy traffic in Ratho indicates that M8 is choked.

As for the pavement parking I realised how bad it is when I tried to walk my bike one icy morning. Not enough room for the bike (drop bars) and me to get through. But as a road user most of the time I don't mind that pavement parking...

I really can't see why anyone with half an ounce of sense would think it sensible to use Ratho village as an A8-A71 rat run provided that Cliftonhall Road is open. How much traffic calming would you need to put in place to dissuade people for whom narrow 20mph roads and a single lane, traffic-light controlled bridge aren't already an adequate deterrent?

(OTOH, I wonder how the residents would/will feel if and when some robust enforcement of the long-awaited pavement parking ban is carried out on Main Street? I suspect simply persuading people to park their cars on the carriageway rather than the footway would go a fair way to further reducing the attractiveness of that route for impatient drivists.)

"Ratho residents say near misses with boy, 5, and teenage girl are down to surge in traffic from road closure"

'The village has long been used as a rat run by motorists coming off the A8 and heading for the A71 or just trying to dodge traffic jams on the A8 and locals have asked repeatedly for traffic calming measures to slow cars down.

But the situation is worse now because Cliftonhall Road is closed for work on a rail bridge and even more cars are coming through.'
