I used to play bagpipes in a BB pipe band as a kid so have rather horrible memories of attending Highland games held in places like Shotts, Lesmahagow and Barrhead. Definitely not picturesque. I’d probably include Bathgate and Burntisland in that list.

The ones in Perthshire are probably where to head.

For a crow, certainly, but Bathgate will be slightly closer for some people using more conventional means of transport.

Are you going as a spectator or competitor? Pitlochry's has a good hill race up Ben Vrackie. Pretty sure the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family steer clear too.

Anyone got any suggestions / recommendations on which ones are best / most family friendly / picturesque?

I really didn't think there would be so many to choose from, it's a bewildering array.
