I was wrong, what I thought was the bike computer was in fact a buckle. Still an impressive feat

@mcairney - is that an e-bike? Anyway impressive that you can lift bike with panniers on. Another downside of hanging racks - posted the actual shots on other thread.
New 'activity' coach for West Highland will have all bikes on floor.

I’m moderately impressed that someone managed to hang a fully-laden e-bike on the cycle hooks!

Couldn't find the booking a bike on a train thread.

Currently on train heading back with Mrs LB. None of these bikes are ours. One guy left at Pitlochry and another couldn't get on at Dunkeld.
Continental guy with a bike booking couldn't hang his wider bike in space.
Train running late as guard has to sort the many questions asked when customers with bikes see huge fairly empty train.

@Tulyar - Thanks for update. So many technical issue as you say. I thought there would be a glut of decent coaches so they could choose the best ones. Nothing is ever simple but they seem to have gone from considering use of the power cars to ignoring until later.
In meantime you mean the extra two more bike spaces are same as ones already and dependent on the extrta coach. Know you like me consider hanging bike spaces to be a waste of time for general use. They need to strip out some seats of the fifth coach to make it an activity coach like West Highland.

@Laidback the HST's were to have 5 carriages, but various issues

- work to fit sliding doors for GWR, Cross Country & Scotrail HST's was set for Wabtec Doncaster (some is now being done at Wabtec Kilmarnock)

- Hitachi opened their Azuma/IEP main depot at Doncaster ... guess where there's a skilled railway technician shortage!

- Mk3 coaches are also Mk3a, & the GWR ones that Scotrail are getting have also had 'deferred' work - ie they're a bit rough compared to ex-LNER ones, so more remedial work, & not every carriage is exactly the same - huge backlog of conversions.

The cycle stowage is exactly same as other coach. The Power Car space could take 5 bikes at each end BUT no one has agreed a protocol for loading this space at stations - having travelled as an engineer working on HST's the noise, and the ride quality seen saw the guard's office moved to Coach A. HST has huge Zebedee coil springs hidden in bodyside pockets & the pitching& noise can be perhaps appreciated here

https://www.flickr.com/photos/h52/33642844758/in/datetaken/

Often called the 125mph 'trams'

Another awkward detail was the loss of a sliding door near Alexandra Palace - because the door mechanism was worn & it wasn't properly locked in place, so proper door closing has to be assured.

Of course Scotland may look unspoilt but RN plan to pipe 'low level radioactive waste' into the Gairloch in 2020.

So low level that nowhere else in UK would allow it. Can't understand how it can be done here in Scotland. To save money or just to punish population for voting 'the wrong way'?

Good news...

@ScotRail
We'll be adding another two spaces to our high-speed trains. The majority of them will have an extra carriage added that also contains more bike storage. ^Angus

I've asked whether they will be hanging or e-bike and bent friendly horizontal.

Eco tourism again. Time to put more pressure on ScotRail to provide bike spaces to get to Cairngorm National Park.

Has train accessible routes. Most would be for two at a time as bike space is strictly rationed here with the larger IC trains.
@hankchief can report back to them on his real experience with his son on a car free day out.
https://www.visitscotland.com/blog/cycling/train-accessible-cycle-routes/

Glasgow to Fort William is unusually suggested by bus. WHL is rated highly but takes longer than road.

Tip: You can rent a Tesla or book an chauffeured guided tour of the North Coast 500 in the first mass-market electric powered vehicle with Ecosse EV (pictured).

OK.
