When I worked in Stirling the journey was tax deductible, as was my lunch. This was due to me technically being employed by an umbrella company based God alone knows where which seconded me to that place despite not actually knowing where I was working.

I recently stumbled on the year's lunch receipts which I should keep for seven years but I think the Revenue will probably not be auditing that period any time soon?

First journey of the day is covered for homeworkers and can be if not going to your usual place of work. I don't know how Simon Community works but it's possible that their staff can claim for first journeys.

In other Simon Community news...

"The Simon Community Scotland has been provided with £300,000 of Scottish Government funding to purchase hotel accommodation in Edinburgh and Glasgow."

https://www.thenational.scot/news/18324837.coronavirus-300k-lifeline-will-provide-hotels-city-homeless/

Ok not a lot of money - depends on hotel rates I suppose. Not heard anywhere else.

In theory good news as communal sleeping unsuitable for Covid 19.

Ah yes you is spot on you cannot claim the first journey either shoe leather (vegan substitute), bike tyre rubber or car

During work i used to get about 12 pound a month when i claimed gave up 5 years ago when my mate retired, he was a great claimant.

So alas HMRC will see this as a perk and deduct tax from it like they did when i used to save council money by buying a monthly bus pass. About two years after wards

gembo you are talking about cycling FOR work.

That’s the point.

THAT is legal.

Employers aren’t supposed to pay to travel TO work.

They can (I think) give loans for season tickets without a financial penalty.

There’s also the Cycle to Work scheme for getting a new bike with a tax rebate.

I’ve never regarded this as entirely ‘legal’ as it seems to rely on HMRC not taking an interest in the value of the bike when the employer ‘sells’ it to employee.

But ‘everyone’ seems happy with the arrangement...

I’m sure HMRC is FAR too busy just now.

It’s good to see an employer actively encouraging cycling to work.

Wonder if they have secure cycle parking, showers etc.

Council pays 25p a mile 5p of which is taxed in bizarre council way. So i am guessing 20p is HMRC limit?
