I quite like The Repair Shop, but there is a clear gulf in skill between the hipster young-uns and the time-served oldies.

I do love watching real craftspeople at work. BBC4 is great for a bit this - the "Handmade" series are totally mesmerising. I am not sure I have ever managed to stay awake to end of an episode though, as they are so relaxing to watch. A few still available on the I-player.

I liked the 78 year old guy who fixed the typewriter. That shan’t be happening much longer, And similar aged guy who remade the military drum.

Yes she is the best. There was an embroiderer too who was impeccable. They are close to conservation-grade work. Stabilise and retain.

The metal guy must know people.

I quite enjoy The Repair Shop. Everything about Jay Blades is tiresome apart from his name but I do love to see craft performed.

The metal guy is addicted to rattle-can paint and reused ball bearings that were clearly shot.

In series three there's a whole bicycle restoration and I actually know the guy whose bike it is. They never rebuilt the wheels but he only uses it to cycle up the drive to fetch the bins in his very remote abode.

Mrs Garto watches The Repair Shop which is usually a load of old tosh but episode this evening had 40 year old side car - like a motorbike sidecar lovingly repaired. Much more stylsih than tow-along but jeez you would be taking up the entire road
