It got booked up pretty darned quickly this time round (I checked in to sign up at the end of March and there was no spaces). Also weather forecast looks promising. Anyone doing it enjoy!

So Rapha say, would be normal time to run Paris Roubaix but that might not go ahead you reckon.? Rapha will probably post a route for individuals to follow.

This is what they tried with the urban peaks. But was blowing a hoolie that weekend and no one did it.

I haven't made the biblongs error in summer, however I did make that mistake yesterday morning. After a mile or so it became clear I was very over dressed for such glorious weather.

They are back at it. In June 2021 there is a five day self supported gravel ride from Edinburgh to Manchester.

Departs 15th June.

They do have a little Citroen Coffee Van that might get up to Edinburgh (presume should be driven inside a lorry)

Then in July they are proposing another compass ride around Edinburgh. They post the 4 points you work out the route.

Did cheer myself up reading the reviews of their most pointless product The Summer Embrocation. . I am not even on thin ice I cannot imagine anyone on CCE would be in favour. Basically like wintergreen but without the active ingredient. One reviewer Alexander Mack said this does nothing for my legs except attract dirt. Seems to be a bronzer and makes your legs smell nice but with no added heat. In summer with cool morning starts do you

A. Faff with leg warmers
2.apply Rapha summer embrocation
Iii. Cycle for a bit until you warm up
Z. Wear those three quarter shorts (I did buy a pair in a sale once)
q. Sweat all day as you picked biblongs in error

Near the start of CCE did we have an analysis of a spat about chamois cream? This also cheered me as it seemed a Swiss fellow had been using a menthol version of Vaseline but had applied it just round the corner from where it is supposed to go causing him to have quite a significant burning sensation in a most sensitive area,

Must say the weather was far better than forecast. Decided to try and find the Gamma shop and sample their coffee. Ride almost ended up ending before it started however as my front tyre exploded after pumping it up a bit! Then I managed to pinch my spare inner tube with a tyre lever. By this point I’d pretty much given up so made the walk of shame to my LBS to have them fit it.
Finally I was out on the bike. Decided to tackle Faside Castle on the return leg and ended up coming up against an oncoming Qashqai right at the steepest point. 2 stops later I managed to finally spin my way up. I reckon I’ve been overdoing it on the bike and at the gym so had nothing in my legs. All in all though a good ride today and probably a good thing I didn’t tackle the full course. Maybe next year!

I alerted the cafe at Clubbiedean, tomorrow will be nice, maybe even this afternoon,

They say if you spot anyone going up the Torduff road on an electric Bike with a trailer containing an urn of soup then they have been busy

The actual people saying they are going on the Rapha pate would not suggest extra soup

@mccairney

Yes that is the route.

They are saying it would not be the hell of the north if it wasn’t hellish. Also claiming ride can be done on road bike like they do at Paris Roubaix. There are three stretches off road. WoL path, then Clubbiedean to Thriepmuir then stretch at self Muir Wood (some bodies may be buried). Basically will be muddy and road bike would Get trashed.

Does stay within Lothian health board and indeed only in two LAs

You could always cycle the Stockbridge to Clubbiedean have a cup of tea at the wee cafe then roll home downhill. Apart from the WoL path bit that is all tarmac.

The stretch from Clubbiedean dean to the poets glen is muddy.

Sticking to the route it is flat or downhill after that apart from the steep ascent of Cairnpapple

It is not dissimilar to a Forth and pentlands route I have in my head but that one is all on road.
