I would take something appalling to emerge in his character to diminish my respect for Eddie Mair. Ever since this:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/mar/24/boris-johnson-interview-eddie-mair

Johnson went downhill at an alarming pace until by the interview's close, admitting he had "sandpapered" quotes as a Times journalist, failing to deny he lied to the party leader at the time, Michael Howard, about an extramarital affair and conceding that he had humoured an old friend when he asked for a phone number in the knowledge that the friend intended to beat up the owner of it.

By the interview's close, "You're a nasty piece of work, aren't you?" was one of Mair's more generous reflections on Johnson's integrity.

Sadly, it seemed to make zero difference to the adulation expressed by the Boris fans out there at the time, and now seems to be been simply absorbed in to the "Boris being Boris" explanation* for his history of self-serving shadiness and dubious effectiveness in any role whatsoever, personal or professional.

* It's unclear why people expect this to resolve the issue. As a colleague of mine once pointed out, if you heard someone say something disgustingly racist and challenged them on it, you would hardly be content with the explanation: "Well, I am a racist!" Would you?

Than again... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zkL91LzCMc&t=75

Jackie is quite Orange in appearance coloring wise I mean, not sash and bowler wise.

I saw Eddie out shopping with his mummy for a jacket in 1985 Glasgow. His radio 4 show at 5pm was fab. He really found his voice.

I don't think she does Orange marches or anything. But she's female, 58 and well off so chances are she's for hanging in there and hoping for the best.

I wish I'd paid more attention to Eddie Mair. Turns out he was the gem.

@IWRATS we have a mutual friend who fancies him, mark lamarr, not JPY..

She can’t explain this

JPY infatuated with his mate David Livingston whom he met at Strathclyde Tech. Hence the statues and Mini Victoria Falls at Polbeth

There is a Lamarr sketch were he mimes to Shaggy's Boombastic and in the middle flies off on pantomime-type wires.

It was very good.

“

In 1850, James 'Paraffin' Young had launched the West Lothian shale mining and processing industry. When his patent expired in 1864, there were plenty of budding entrepreneurs ready to accept the opportunity presented. Small shale mining operations sprang up in various locations, several of which were in Fife.

IWRAT

Stands for

Iwrats Was Right About That

Technically JPY made his millions from a method of extracting oil from Torbanite. A type of matter half way between coal and shale. Found mostly at Torbane Hill In Bathgate. When that ran out they moved on to lamosite which they extracted from fifties throwback Mark Lamarr (famously oily)

JPY patented the way of distilling the oil and various other patents the extraction of the actual matter was probably ongoing before hand, JPY made it more efficient and raked in the dosh. He spent that on statues in George Sq Glasgow and recreating Victoria Falls in Polbeth.

Great to have another named trail. Maybe they will launch the IWARTS Trail leading from where I am to where I want to be?

Following on from the mighty IWRAT naming the concept of naming something to make it real e.g. the Pentlands way that supposedly runs from crosswood Reservoir near South Lanarkshire to hill end along the ridge way

Sustrans now give you The Shale Trail that runs from wynchie to west Calder for those with an interest in paraffin. Corson the Stockbridge reclus8ve ironmonger has declined to sponsor it.

Check out the Shale Trail page over at Sustrans. Warning contains reference to JPY

Note IWRATS was right about this.
