I'm a radio junkie and now I'm working from home it's on all the time. Someone told me that radios don't last in the kitchen as the steam damages them. I had a valve radio as a child. Listened to John Peel in bed after it had warmed up. Radio 4 a fixture until 24th June 2016 when I turned that off in disgust. No going back. Same with he sound system which is just a Sonos portable waterproof speaker, recently found in my youngest’s room (she already has a Sonos speaker b it wanted to play her music really, really loud). My preference is a linn turntable, with a granite slab. A room of my own and all my Vinyl magically back from Illinois. Or maybe Armadale garage (the chap I gave it to ended up living in USA but without a Visa) However, Spotify and the speaker works, Quite pleased with this solution I have to say. I see a version of mix tapes creeping in to other people i know using Spotify. And the actual Spotify algorithm is often good. Does tend to be segregated white music/black music whereas my old mixtapes were slightly more mixed. I did one back in the day which annoyed the waitresses in Fratelli Sarti as when it got tot he Tom Waits/Howlin Wolf bit at the end the punters were always pestering them to find out who was on the tape..... Good to check out these streamed options - although like @jss was brought up listening to valve radio (big Philips one with classy veneer got second hand by mum). No TV till I was 13. For calming presenter I like Tom Morton Beatcroft from Shetland. Not dour at all.
