The one good thing about the stick-on tape was that it sticks on, making it simpler to fit than the rubbery stuff which has to be wrangled between tube and tyre whilst persuading them all onto the rim.

Schwalbe give the protection rating for the 365 tyres a fraction below the Plus tyres
Perhaps that minimal difference is sufficient to allow puncture fairies to poke thorns through?

I hope I am not going to jinx anything but my Marathon Plus Tour have done nearly 20 000 miles (31 000 km) without a puncture. They are almost 2 years old now. I mostly just use them on roads but still not too shabby. Do I even remember how to replace a tube?

/touch wood/ keep touching wood/

@gembo Aye, that's me. But I still get to where I want to. Eventually.

I tried the Panaracer Kevlar belts once and was unimpressed. The kevlar was undeniably tough and very difficult to cut to length, but (as @wingpig intimates) it's a kind of felty non-woven fabric. It would definitely stop a knife, but I found that sharp pointed things (thorns for example) just wormed their way between the fibres...

In summary, it's hard to cut, but you can push a needle straight through it with no resistance at all.

@jss, marathonplus have the Kevlar and 5mm more tread than your average tyre.

Kevlar is guaranteed bullet proof

But the manufacturers of Kevlar do not make such claims about Hawthorns

Marathon 365 s were brand new!
They have a good reputation for puncture protection but you could use hawthorn thorns as nails in joinery
Going to try Panaracer Kevlar belts- believe Kevlar is used to protect against bullets ,so maybe works against these pesky thorns. About a tenner per tyre
I blame the hedge contractors /and or farmers who leave a considerable amount of the trimmings on the roads
Even stuff left on the verges seems to wash down on to the tarmac with rain ,wind and snow .
I think hedge trimming is done in the autumn months ,so these are old trimmings and invisible under any covering of snow.
Puncture fairies are a perverse breed - they allow false confidence to a accrue for several years without any activity and then pierce repeatedly in a few days in conditions that make repairs painful
My non winter bike is tubeless -I think they may have coped with this sort of puncture but the winter trike doesn’t have tubeless rims and I don’t see tubeless winter tyres in a 406 size

Anyone tried non air filled tyres like the Schwalbe Airless system?

Hawthorn will pierce even Marathon Plus. The cautious person’s sluggish tyre of choice.

Especially if worn

Don’t like to be nosey but @jss how old are your tyres? Multiple punctures are caused by

A. Not getting the thorns all out so same culprit repeats
2. Bad luck
iii worn tyres
d. Pinching when changing
5. Puncture fairies

There is always slime.......

I have a couple of different types of anti-puncture tape between Marathon+/Winter and inner tube on both bikes. Haven't caught them specifically blocking something from getting at the tube but also haven't had many punctures. The flat, rubbery tape seems a bit more effective than the sort of hairy stick-on tape which isn't really wide enough.

3 thorn punctures in last 10 days even with marathon 365 tyres !
I guess the snow/ice/water acts as a sort of lubricant
Has anyone tried any of those protective “belts” that go between the tyre and inner tube??
My fingers are too damn cold this time of year to do roadside punctures
