I don't recall it being called the Woolpack but that doesn't mean it wasn't. At the time of closing the sign was Hopsack Bar. It was also a boring lean too rather than the more appealing wooden conservatory in the article.

I rather like the horse tied up outside. The other option to get there at the time was Cramond Brig Station directly behind the hotel.

I'd take the NCN1 as far as Whitehouse Road, and then drop down to Barnton shopping centre.

Trying to think of a safe way to cycle there now and I think it involves quite a detour. Assuming that's what used to be the Woolpack?

But yes, it is delightful, the thought of thousands of cyclists heading along Queensferry Road for a nice leisure ride.

@acsimpson - in the 1890s cycling was a fashionable pursuit for the upper-classes. Ladies would whirl around Battersea Park in London.

I came across this interesting article from 1897 about what could have been for West Edinburgh.

https://www.forgottengreens.com/what-might-have-been/midlothian-barnton-hotel/

At the time it seems that cycling to the new opened Barnton Hotel for afternoon tea was the fashionable thing to do.

While poking about maps on NLS for any more clues I noticed that Cammo appears to have briefly been labelled as Camino prior to taking it's modern name.
