There's half of a tree down (now Clarenced) on the bank at the Leithy end of the path whose branches are now dangling at face-height across most of the width of the path. Think it was between the Great Junction Street bridge and the Coburg Street step-exit; between lamp-posts SRR25 and SRR26, anyway.

It is a lovely route, and rideable now... but you'll want mudguards, and please beware the remaining bits of packed ice, some of them are somewhat slippy!

"
THE Juniper Green Farmers' Market will be on Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

It will be held next to the Kinleith Arms on Lanark Road.

Stallholders will be selling meat, vegetables, chocolate, game, fish and bread, among other produce.

"

Good excuse to try the lovely off-road route between Tollcross and Balerno...

"There's a busy dual carriageway near Balerno?"

Yes - city bypass.

Don't think bikes are allowed...

Cutting fallen trees is pretty hazardous and might involve the use of chains and straps :-)

Best left to the professionals.

My chainsaw is too heavy to drag up there (and probably has public liability issues on a public pathway) and I'm too lazy* to cut that thickness of trunk with a bush saw these days, esp if it allows the authorities to continue to ignore their responsibility to maintain cycle/footpaths...

*There, I said it first!

What about getting a saw and cycling there yourself to cut it down? We're supposed to be model citizens, part of the big society now (according to the new UK gov't).

I cycled along the Alloa - Dunfermline cycle track this weekend and am planning a trip back to cut back multiple tree branches which are obstructing the path.

[No pics attached]

Decided to go up to Colinton today.

Met (pure chance/good timing) a CEC Countryside Ranger who was looking at the tree Smudge mentioned - because he had mentioned it here!

Seems the tree has been down for several weeks, it was cut through as a temporary measure by the Rangers and is awaiting for Forestry people to remove properly.

Apparently the only vehicle access is all the way from Colinton through the tunnel. There's still snow/ice down on some parts of the route.

Should be sorted soon.

Even better news - various sections of the route, and bits south of Colinton are due to be upgraded in the next couple of months.

A mix off drainage, mud scraping and whin dusting should make a big difference.

Any similar problems should be reported to countrysiderangers@edinburgh.gov.uk

NOTE Rangers don't cover North Edinburgh Paths Network.

Sites covered by CEC Rangers.

More info on Rangers.

UPDATE

Remembered that ranger said that it was better to get several reports about a problem - "don't assume that someone else has reported it".

529 3030. I reported a fallen tree in the Bingham stretch of the Innocent on the first day of the snow and it was gone three days later.

Was back on the wol walkway from Slateford up to Colinton today again and I see little/nothing has been done to clear the trees which fell over during the snow (sigh)
Anyone know if this has already been reported to the model cycling city council?? (Just so I can mention it when I report it ;-))

Also, I chatted briefly about it to a chap heading into town (antipodean accent), anyone on here? :-)
