@Morningsider Excellent. Our back green(something of a misnomer as it was concreted over some time in the middle of the 20th century) is a right state and the other owners are finally making noises about getting it sorted, hopefully I can persuade them putting in a shed with 2 bike spaces per-flat will add some value to their properties(assuming the other conservation area planning <Rule 2> doesn't sink the whole project).

@Snowy

There is an update in red on the bike storage in gardens page.

http://www.spokes.org.uk/documents/advice/bike-storage-gardens/

We have to update the factsheet though and we should publicise it.

@Yodhrin - yes, new permitted development Class 9J allows each tenement to install a bike shed within its "rear curtilage" (back green). This applies in conservation areas, but not listed buildings or within a world heritage site. This change came into force on 1 April 2021.

Hmm, so if I'm understanding that right, a traditional tenement block layout - a small shared drying green for each stair, sometimes also a large communal green in the middle of them all - could allow each stair to put up a shared bike storage structure in their own bits without restriction(beyond the usual planning constraints for permitted development)? What about when such blocks are located within a conservation area, do they follow the rules for flats or for "houses in a conservation area" back gardens?

Speculatively, a while beforehand, though? Might be worth Spokes doing an update detailing what was finally implemented - I know many people are still in the dark (as was I until I ran across it today).

I missed this - improvements to planning rules around bike sheds. Apologies if this has already been covered (no pun intended).
