If this is part of your job, do you have a relationship with supervisors?

@srd, this is why I tend always to complete surveys etc.

Though you do worry about the stiff feedback we give the students on here

In real life one of my many jobs involves a good deal of discussion with researchers. I point out the contract states they should supply me with their report or paper and some even comply.

Some Dont and then you feel you have been slightly used? I know they are busy and moving on to the next contract/project.

1. lateral flow tests notoriously unreliable (especially is self-applied).

2. saliva tests less invasive / easier to administer?

for me personally

I spend my life asking people to be part of my research; it's nice to give back and be in someone else's project.

Sure, but what problem is it solving?

Everyone is already being encouraged to do two LF tests a week that are already provided for free and give a faster result, so it's not solving the do I have Covid and will I give it to my colleuages today problem (especially with a next day result).

So if UoE employees are already doing those LF tests, in terms of data, HR is already collecting the Covid +ve data when people call in sick (Covid specifically recorded), so the uni already knows how many staff have covid without extra monitoring, so that doesn't seem to be a problem either.

Would be interesting to see if the HR data matched the Test.ed data though, or how many extra cases Test.ed spotted. :)

I do get the research element, but to me there doesn't seem to be a practical problem to solve...

(someone involved in project likely to be on here and put me right, it would be awsome to know the detail)

Baldcyclist, I haven't looked in to the details, but surely the point is to assist with the research, not to gain anything yourself?

TestEd uses a PCR test so should be considerably more accurate than the lateral flow and capable of detecting lower viral load. Fun with sample pooling (and the use of saliva instead of throat swabs) might reduce the accuracy a bit.

Certainly sample collection is much easier with saliva. Almost a, pleasure!

It seems pointless to me to get the result of the test the next day.

When we go back I'll be asking folks to take a lateral flow test before they come into work, so we know if people have COVID *before* infecting half of the room...

May be useful to do in adition to LF test.
