It felt big. I think we had the bigger of the two groups in the end so even a rough split down the middle of those leaving Edinburgh makes it 150+ </p> <p>The group was long enough that I was able to get off on a railway bridge at the front as it was moving at about 10mph jump onto the road protector so I could look back and figure out what the queue of traffic was like behind (not big) and then get back on my bike and rejoin somewhere in the rear third of the ride. The little knot of riders right at the front doing blocking as we arrived in Glasgow was often 20-30 strong and that was nowhere near the bulk of the riders.</p> <p>There was one lad on a MTB wearing jeans and a hoodie. He was cold after our last stop for a wee outside Airdrie. I set him to blocking junctions, waiting to the back and then told him to cycle back to the front in his biggest gear to report back to me on what was happening at the back. He did this a few times and reported that he was feeling "much warmer". Job done! </p> <p>Many lovely stories of people who had joined and why.<br /> A district nurse (retired) who was coming along for the march and was keeping up fine. </p> <p>Two younger students who had never riden anything like this before. I had to tow them back on a couple times before bathgate but once they understood that things were far easier getting towed along in the group then they kept up fine. </p> <p>CCE own Roibeard who dropped out after Bathgate to shepherd a loan rider who was desperate to make the march but who couldn't hold the pace we'd asked people to maintain. Cycling places you'd never normally cycle, because of the huge safety in numbers effect, was brilliant!
