“

The company is completing the work at its own undisclosed expense after Edinburgh Trams said the firm had admitted liability for the faults, which were caused during construction.

“

CEC ‘lucky’ contractors hadn’t gone bust!

“but any tram work must take account of the weight and frequency here”

Bit late.

Should all have been factored in when track was planned and laid.

Failures due to materials, installation processes and subsequent maintenance (or lack of) are no surprise.

Will be ‘lucky’ if current remedial work is all that will be required due to specific localised conditions/circumstances.

George IV Bridge no busier than usual from cycling perspective. Just a big line of cars and buses going nowhere fast.

Question

E-buses are heavier than diesel models? Weight stays same too as they can't burn fuel to lighten?
The huge numbers of buses in city are very welcome for those without access to car but any tram work must take account of the weight and frequency here.

Possibly a side effect of using platinum for the tracks? Corrosion-resistant but rather heavy (as well as expensive) ;-)

Further work is also being done on the two streets to replace life-expired “track sealant”.

Three sources told The Scotsman the concrete cannot cope with being driven over by vehicles and is crumbling.

‘Falling to bits’

It is claimed this has been happening since shortly after the line was completed in 2014 and the wrong grade of material may have been used.

So what has happened here this week?

https://twitter.com/edintravel/status/1441362010738880514

A long term steel road plate Westbound at signal controlled crossing

Some significant cracked sections of track slab, especially the 'joints' where the load-transfer bars delivered 2 cracks 30cm apart & concrete falling out - then patched with tarmac &c

Look forward to pictures....
