Putting off announcing you're going to Drill Baby Drill in the North Sea because you're concerned about "the optics" of announcing it as half of England is on fire and grannies are roasting alive in their living rooms. Prattling on in the media about how North Sea oil &amp; gas "is an important part of our transition to renewables and combating the rising cost of living" as if a single sodding drop of the stuff isn't going to be whisked away and sold on international markets at full market rates, benefitting us not a jot. Now putting about "warnings" from reports you've commissioned saying we could run out of gas in a "high stress scenario" as if the whole thing is just an unavoidable circumstance of nature and not the direct result of the government's <em>own damn policies</em> like caving into construction industry lobbying and not mandating solar and batteries in every newbuild and by watering down proposed insulation regs for retrofitting, by running away from the poorly implemented insulation scheme to avoid bad press rather than fixing it, and by continuing to enforce a ridiculous outdated energy market where the price of electricity is pegged to gas, gas-fired backup power is the norm, and zonal pricing is rejected.</p> <p>They could fix ~80% of this [Rule 2] in less than a year if they were willing to spend even a single shred of political capital fighting back against the lies and propaganda of the industry, instead of mindlessly capitulating to it because Muh Industrial Jobs Tho.
