@jonty My jaunt down Harrison Road last night was amusing.

The traffic was so heavy at times it wasn't possible to filter. The majority was downhill towards Ardmillan and Gorgie but there was enough heading canalwards to make filtering difficult. Particularly as poor vehicle choice (shout out to the dude in the Ford Raptor here) meant it was extremely difficult for certain vehicles to pass each other at anything other than glacial speed and with much stopping and leaning out of windows. I suppose I should be grateful they were at least cautious.

Some drivers also attempted Silliness(TM) but nothing bad occurred.

For myself, with a little bit of walking I was soon on my way.

Very, very glad that Murieston is still one way at the student development. I would expect that Maximum Silliness(TM) would have been achieved once frustrated drivers reached the comparatively quieter world-famous Russell Road Rat Run...

This too…

“

The incident happened in Broomhouse at around 6.30pm, when 40-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle, which did not stop.

The road was closed and he was taken to Edinburgh Royal infirmary, while police are working to identify the driver.

Bypass was still closed at 7pm. Lots of temporary traffic lights around Craiglockhart and Polwarth not helping matters, and presumably a huge volume of holiday traffic which wouldn't normally come inside the bypass either lost or following their satnavs to the least blocked up route.

Occurred to me how many routes down from the Colinton area - Shandon Place, Yeaman Place, Harrison Road - have got stealth single-vehicle wide sections due to (legal) parking and "less legal" parking often causes more nearby. They must lock up very easily when the traffic gets like this.

It was busy to the point of backing-up through our backwater of Fairmilehead from mid-afternoon until about 7:30-8pm, mostly with drivers rat-running to avoid the traffic lights at the Fairmilehead crossroads (which is common enough, unfortunately, but not at that volume). Google Maps showed Oxgangs Road westbound solid red so I doubt it did them a whole lot of good.

I did wonder why my number 15 was crawling along in a tailback past the Charwood at 2pm. Then I saw SRD's OP.

Having been the damage on the NEPN from a burnt motorcycle I imagine there is a resurfacing crew out before the bypass can reopen.

We were unfortunately returning from holiday near Newcastle. Driving round North Edinburgh was mostly clear until Davidson Mains then a little slow to Barnton. Chaos errupted when we discovered Whitehouse Road closed at the shops. At that point we gave up and walked home. My unfortunate colleague who lives in Kinghorn had left IKEA 4 hours earlier and had little choice.

The queue the other was stretched from the start of Gamekeeper Road to D'mains. Queensferry Road was is blocked by one of the many crashes too. It seems too many people forget how to drive when their journey is altered.
