What a story. Focused on the bike shop stuff, understandably enough, but clearly the periods before and after were just as much of a fantasy.</p> <p>I was friends at St. Andrews with a post-grad from Raasay. Met him through playing for the shinty team. He spoke Gaelic - it sounded genuine to me, and he chatted with speakers from west coast teams when we played there. Had loads of colourful stories of his childhood on the islands. It's a crazy story. </p> <p>I lived with a guy like that in a flat many years ago. I found this letter on the floor one day that had fallen out his pocket that he was going to post to somebody he knew down south (pre email days). It was full of outlandish claims and stuff he'd experienced with the rest of us in the flat that were just complete fiction, mostly of the 'my flatmates are completely idiotic, mental and causing me endless grief, and I am the unsung hero holding the whole of Edinburgh together' variety. I'm not saying we weren't mental, but still... Made me wonder if I was living with a psychopath.
