There are quite a few signs that say 'Trams only' and I go on the tram route--if there isn't one breathing down my neck.

When then turning left to head south on North St Andrews Street, and I'm on the pavement as directed, I can cycle off the pavement onto the road after the turn, although it's narrow and raised and pedestrians will not be pleased (rightly so).

I'm very confused. You're on York Place, turning left into N St Andrews St? Why would you be on the pavement? I take this section a lot, coming from Dublin Street, and I can't picture where you would be on pavement (except when going downhill North towards Dublin St).

“sure there's much to be gained going up North St Andrew St”

Depends where your going.

Direct route to Waverley.

I always get off before the pedestrian crossing and push across to south side of Princes St.

I'm not sure there's much to be gained going up North St Andrew St that can't be achieved in a simpler fashion going up North St David Street.

"I fell the sign should be changed to 'Trams and Cycles Only'?"
You can't have this as the crossing over Nth St Andrew St runs at the same time as traffic on York Place.

It's mostly a moot point anyway since CCWEL will change the junction in a few months: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/ccwel/downloads/file/153/section-three-general-arrangements

Hi,

When heading north on Elder Street and turning left onto York Place to head west, the road markings suggest I should mount the pavement, but there are no 'shared use' signs. Should I use the road instead?

When then turning left to head south on North St Andrews Street, and I'm on the pavement as directed, I can cycle off the pavement onto the road after the turn, although it's narrow and raised and pedestrians will not be pleased (rightly so). If, however, I'm on the road and the traffic light is green, I can simply turn left, avoiding trams (light's green) and tram lines but there's a sign saying 'Trams only', so I should push the bike for 2m? (I get (illegally) beeped when I stay on my bike rather than push) The road markings and signage appear to suggest I should go straight ahead and then turn up the street at the west-side shared-use pavement, and then immediately diagonally cross the street and tram lines, which means displeasing pedestrians (again), and rightly so.

I fell the sign should be changed to 'Trams and Cycles Only'?

Is this the best place to discuss this, or should I contact the council directly and, if so, whom?

Thanks,
Gavin
