The Gyle bridge crosses the Fife railway line between South Gyle station and the Gyle centre allowing you to go directly north from Gyle Park. It was planned and funded by the Scottish Government but the council took so long to get moving on it that the funding now only covers a small area of questionable quality at the southern end of the original scheme.

“To add another to the list there is also the West Craigs bridge“

I’d assumed that was this one -

“

Gyle Bridge

This bridge would connecting communities across the railway line as part of the West Edinburgh Link, which aims to make it easier to walk or cycle between South Gyle, Edinburgh Park and neighbouring areas. The council says the Fife railway line forms a barrier between local communities in west Edinburgh, with a lengthy diversion to get across the railway for people walking, wheeling and cycling.

“

But that’ll be a bridge between SG & EP stations?

To add another to the list there is also the West Craigs bridge. It's funded and paid for by the developers but Network Rail were arses and stopped them from building it so now we have a new Edinburgh's Disgrace in the ramp to nowhere and the council has to deliver it presumably having been paid enough to build it in 2020 prices.

It is a key deliverable to ensure that the 3,000 ish new houses off Maybury have a safe and convenient active travel route to the Gyle and beyond.

As a teenager living in the Pans I used to cycle over the Brunstane bridge. It's not for everyone/bike but it's certainly possible.

I went to a meeting many years ago about the Salveson Steps. At that time one of the options under consideration was a bridge over the Almond and into Dalmeny. Alternatively they either had to build ramps up to the top of the crag or a cantilevered structure round it. Those might not be "bridges" in the sense of crossing an obstacle but I imagine a lot of the same construction work would be required.

Indeed - previous lobbying for signage pointing folk in that direction has been fruitless. Will try again!

if we were going to tank these in terms of priority/utility, my vote is:

1. Brunstane
2. Roseburn
3. Slateford aqueduct
4. Gyle Bridge
5. salveson steps

I used 4. Brunstance Bridge - i.e. the existing stepped one across the railway a few weeks ago while following NCR1. 'What sort of nonsense is that?' is what I thought while lugging my laden bike up and down.

The other five bridges are:
2. Roseburn - linking the Roseburn Path to the yet to be built Roseburn/canal link
3. Gyle Bridge - part of the West Edinburgh Link
4. Brunstance Bridge - i.e. the existing stepped one across the railway
5. Salveson Steps (River Almond) alternative. Not sure this would end up as a 'bridge' if it ever happened.
6. Slateford Aqueduct

“

Six new bridges – including one right across the Waverley valley – could be built as part of Edinburgh’s drive to improve walking and cycling connections around the city.

The city council’s Active Travel Action Plan, due to be approved by the transport committee on Thursday (February 2) says there are places in the Capital where a new bridge could make a big difference to people’s ability to get about the city easily on foot or by bike. But it warns that bridges are expensive, so they won’t all be built immediately.
