I was always taught that a "vintage" vehicle was one which was made 1930 or before, although some people consider up to the end of WW2 as vintage, personally I see that as a reasonable definition. As time goes by one might reasonably argue the date should creep forward, ten years old however I would dispute.
Of course if we are talking about wine I'm sure the definition will vary ;-)

@ Kaputnik, HURRAH! (Mrs Trellis's letters to Humph were alway a joy ;-))

Yebbut, vintage doesn't mean old. Unless you define which vintage then it's kind of a redunant word to use.

Another weasel word is "classic".

People have different idea about "collectable" too.

As the writers to BBC complaints programmes used to traditionally start;
Why oh why oh why, cannot people get into their thick skulls that "vintage" is not a word which refers to anything older than this weeks latest dashed model >:-<

I thought I'd have a quick look on ebay to see what sort of price unrestored pre 1945 type bicycles might go for* and I am assaulted by dozens of ugly 1970's to 2000's racers and mountain bikes.
One might reasonably argue that SOME of them could be considered "classic" but THEY ARE NOT VINTAGE! Grrrrr
(rant off)

Going for a nice cuppa now, in case I start sitting in the corner shaking a broadsheet furiously and shouting "harumph" at anything which conflicts with my viewpoint ;-)

*window shopping only!
