That only happens if two-thirds of MSPs vote for a motion to hold such an election. </p> <p>Also, fun fact, if an extraordinary general election was held any time up until early November 2025, there would still be a general election in May 2026. </p> <p>No political party wants (or can afford) to fight two general elections within a year.
