Why are they even allowed to build and sell cars that can achieve double the motorway speed limit? There are fringe cases where you might need more oomph - towing a trailer/caravan, or driving on a track - but 90% of people never do them and 99.99% of the time nobody is, so why are these fringe scenarios used as the baseline? I mean, we know why they *are*; political and social inertia, Muh Freedumb, it gives the car companies something to put in their adverts about how big and powerful their product is.
