Somehow my original post has vanished

There was a recent tram-pedestrian crash in Leith, with the victim seriously injured & taken to hospital. She lived beside the tram route and her neighbour was immediately present providing first aid. You'll find reports elsewhere unless other post links

Trams running on street must have under run protection AKA lifeguards, and so unlike buses or trucks few end up going under the vehicle and seriously hurt - although the fatal crash in Manchester, Piccadilly Gardens showed an issue with
this detail

In terms of investigation trams are regulated by ORR, and incidents may be investigated by RAIB or have a safety bulletin issued. There have been a few fatal tram-pedestrian collisions including at Saughton (see later) plus at Morden Hall Park (Croydon) which may have some relevance here. There was also an incident at Sandilands (croydon) where the victim got trapped between the tram and the platform at the tram stop

At Saughton when the crossing was on the busway it had a 10mph speed limit & other details. When the trams replaced buses the speed limit was removed & a key detail of making a pedestrian face the oncoming trams with a clear view s before turning 90° to cross the track was highlighted in the Morden Hall Park and Sandilands incidents

As a system that slip through the cracks incidents on a tram system can also be considered by HSE (as HSAWA) but also as RTC as a public road. For the latter we have Section 39 which mandates the Council to investigate crashes and then take action to prevent any future crashes (worth doing a few FoI requests on this)

I've already noted a jumble of tactile paving used along the corridor between the cycling and tram interfaces and as with the pavement markings the lack of an official TSRGD (chapter 5) definition we seem to have a free-for-all make up your own situation in many places, something that Scottish Government can take control of rather then Westminster, as has already happened with the special supplementary plates (2 types) rapidly installed after Li Min Soh was killed in Edinburgh, and AFAIK not being used on any English tram network. This was one real credit to the Edinburgh Council Transport team and the Scottish Government to turn this out quickly
