<description>&#60;p&#62;As mentioned in Threads Passim, the totally excellent Hannah who runs The Cycle Service with the equally excellent Chris has refused to put an Alivio or Sora rear hanger on to my tricross as she says shimano modern nine speed rear mechs are made of cheese. She tasked me to find a Deore Rear Mech on eBay. I tried but they were all Used so no idea if worth buying before trying. I did find one new one down in Sussex at Southwater Cycles but was scared the Any Deore Will Do was enough specificity as Road and mountain bike versions exist. I headed into town to check details with Hannah on Friday, stopping off at The Bike Station. There I was given a box of totally sh1t rear mechs Tourney etc and almost unbelievably an apparently good Deore 9 spd. I tried to buy this but Ezzie the mechanic said I don’t want to sell this as will be a lot of bother for Hannah to fit as it is a Rapid Riser, I said Hannah will be fine as she said Any Deore 9 spd. Ezzie sold me it for five whole pounds but told me to keep the receipt in case Hannah declined to fit it.. Hannah remarked, when I said any Deore 9spd I never thought for a second you would return with a Rapid Riser. I said oh are they tricky to fit? Hannah laughed, no she said that isn’t the problem - the problem is that now both your Brifters will change the same way rather than the opposite ways (down will be down on both sides and up will be up on both sides). You may find this confusing. I said I often found changing gears confusing anyway and we agreed Hannah would bung it on this coming Tuesday and we would see how it went. Hannah being totally excellent is not charging me as the bike has recently been serviced by her. What Larks. Pip. I imagine I am about to find out why Rapid Risers didn’t catch on.
