"I feel silly now for not reading back far enough to find Saskia's post."

Er no -

There's SO much good stuff on here that it can be hard to find - even if you know 'it's there somewhere'.

SEARCH is pretty good - but not 100% guaranteed to find everything!

Excellent, thank you kaputnik! Yeah, he has a lot of equipment and I certainly hope I don't end up owing him for new loppers - I shall report back.

As mentioned on another thread, get in with a big pair of your tree-surgeon friend's loppers inbetween the protective cups. Should be able to part the cups and get adequate leverage to mangle/crush through the cable. I presume your friend will have access to blade sharpening equipment incase you dull his tools :)

Thank you chdot and everyone who's commented on 'the other thread', I feel silly now for not reading back far enough to find Saskia's post.

Yep - I and a friend with a wide selection of sawing and cutting tools should, with any luck, be able to free my bike at the weekend, so am certainly hoping this is resolved now - you can delete this thread if you like, I couldn't work out how to do so.

I see from the other thread that you may have this sorted.

This is what happened 'last time'.

ARGH! I don't like Thursdays. After surviving the Silent Hill-like conditions out there this morning, have just locked my bike up outside my office and managed to snap the key off in the lock (which has been dodgy for a while, more fool me.)
It's not a particularly heavy-duty lock, it's a thick cable one like this. Has anyone else ever had this issue? What should I do?! Will bike shops/garages/hardware shops be sympathetic and let me borrow whatever kind of tool you need to cut one of these, I don't particularly want to buy one on top of having to buy a new lock (the week before payday too, gah).
Any advice much appreciated, I don't want my pride and joy to be all immobilised and rusting (more) for long.
