Midlothian Council are considering the viability of uplift-supported trails at Hillend. They already have some input from the Edinburgh MTB community.

I'm a volunteer with Craigmillar Woods Action Group (we do general conservation stuff in the area). My understanding is that although plans were drawn up and funding was sought, the council are not going to implement this scheme.

Some of the paths have been used for MTB/cyclocross races, and unknown parties have done a bit of trail building (that might actually conflict with race routes).

I'd be happy to see some trail building going on in the park, especially if it helped connect the park to other routes and increased public use of neglected areas.

Good question cutteroo.

Will send an email (though others here may know more).

Anyone know about any ideas relating to developing Hillend now that the ski slope has been 'reprieved'. (Midlothian).

any updates on this? would be nice to have decent trails I could ride to, do the loop and ride back rather than having to load up the car to get to 'Tress... :)

Wooooooooot! Trails so close to my house! Sweet! I'm stoked! Er... Dude!

Actually, this realyl would be somerthing I'd use. I know Glentress isn't far away int he car, but it still requires planning and so on - with this I could hop on the bike at bleary o'clock on a Saturday or Sunday and go for a blast and be home in time for breakfast (I've said before, I'm an anti-social cyclist, I like getting out on my own, and that goes for MTBing as well, when I go to Glentress I get there at ridiculous times, heading back to the Hub for food just as everyone is carbing up for their own ride).

And 'not steep enough for a black route'? Can easily put in black obstacles - ooooh, North Shore! - with reds to the side.

G'wan g'wan g'wan!

(can you tell I'd really like this to happen?)

"
The thing you heard on the radio was the discussion about putting mountain bike trails in Craigmillar Castle Park, the whole report is pretty big and not online, but we did have a consultation, with leaflets that show the basic trails - and that's still available online here:

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/3057/craigmillar_mountain_bik
e_consultation

Not all of those trails are going ahead - we are going to concentrate on the section in Hawkhill Woods, and then a cross country loop in the northern section of the park.

Currently the project is seeking the appropriate planning/consent permissions and will also be seeking grant funds soon. I'm hoping to start up a Facebook page for people that are interested, and I'll post something on your forum when that happens.

Otherwise, please contact me if you have any further questions.

Regards

This has been talked about for a while and apparently there are firm proposals out for consultation.
