Gears are handlebar-based conundrums intended to stress the mental metal beyond breaking point at times of intense exertion when the grey matter is struggling to even remember what its name is. That's my excuse, anyway...

"as there was only 15k to go I'd bump it up to 100km"

Pffft. That's nowt. This morning I went up School Brae in Cramond in the wrong gear. Thirty-four metres of sinew-snapping, muscle torturing, burp-inducing hell.

I think we all know who has really gone the extra mile today, eh...? ;-)

First time I 'popped over' to N Berwick and back I just had a latte before returning. When I got back I checked out how far it was and realized why I was feeling so wabbit!

yes - good effort! There's nothing better than following your nose and it just taking you further and further. Nose and legs in perfect harmony.

As Nelly says, reward with beer and stretch, plenty carbs and fluids, early night and then some gentle spinning tomorrow to stop you seizing up. The world will then be a better place.

Well done.

I am paraphrasing, but "just popped out and it panned out that I pulled a 100k"...............is pretty good going in my book!!!

Especially as you were not that prepared in the food/drink front !

I now feel that my hitherto ok preparation for the year is looking quite shoddy.

Have a beer (and a stretch !!)

Feeling a bit tender now but chuffed with myself.

Poppped out to North Berwick this afternoon along the coastal roads and had a fantastic time. Had a quick stop in the EBC to get their own brand specs and wow what a difference they make.
It was a good ride and once I passed Cockenzie PS I knew I was on new ground.

Had a good look around the town, went out to the bird centre then had a sandwich. Good stuff. Thought I had been there as a child but no memories of it at all.
I originally intended to get the train back (thinking as I'm new to this it would be a bit much cycling back) but after the sandwich and a drink I was raring to go.

The ride back felt a little tougher but kept up an average of 24-28kph and claimed a few scalps both ways.

Once I was back in Leith I took the Roseburn path up and decided as there was only 15k to go I'd bump it up to 100km.
The first 85k today was easy, well not tough anyway but that last 15 in the city almost finished me off. (Haymarket ==> Gogar Roundabout ==> up to the Zoo ==> Through to Gorgie/Dalry ==> Slateford down to Asda ==> U turn up Slateford past Diggers zooming along to Morrison street ==> Dalry HOME.)

But...
I made it and without stopping at all from North Berwick to the front door for a drink (no bottle cage yet which is a bit silly).

Time for some dinner I think.

Cheers

Michael
