My only claim to that sort of awesomeness is cycling up to the docs when I had whooping cough as a teenager, got a row for that as well! (Though I did get back on a motorbike the day after writing off my Suzuki 550 by going under a trailer, only got spotted and told off by a mate because my knee was leaking through the dressings and then through my jeans)
Hope the scrapes heal up soon Anth, and any bike damage justifies buying new toys you want anyway ;-)

"stiffening in the headset is just in my head or if there will be a catastrophic failure on the ride home"

Headsets on the brain eh!

There's a small chance that the steerer is slightly damaged - certainly worth look at the forks - and do some more 'no hands' practices..

Worth a small adjustment to the headset.

Headsets probably less likely to suffer "catastrophic failure" than most bits of your bike - or you...

I recall .anth saying somewhere how he heals really quickly and once walked to the doctor with a broken leg or something.

Walked to physio without crutches 10 days after having my left anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed (basically involved taking some of my hamstring away and putting it inside the knee then spend the next 9 months training it to do the job of the ligament). Physio shouted at me.

A week after shattering my elbow I was driving, about two weeks after that I was riding again. Though I didn't have a cast to get in the way being held together by pins and wires and screws.

So maybe it's just the internal stuff that heals up quickly - we'll see...

As for the bike, yeah, gave the wheels a spin and they seemed fine, and the crack hadn't opened up, brakes still worked. Can't tell if the stiffening in the headset is just in my head or if there will be a catastrophic failure on the ride home.

chicks dig scars.

especially hipstamatic retrochic scars!

Anyway, I hope the only permanent damage done is to your pride.

Perhaps you ought to take a hammer to that cracked stay, finish the job properly then go back to the tarmac, lie on the ground and wait for "witnesses" to arrive then try and sue Clarence for cost of replacement frame?

I'm ditching my second layer on the way home, as I should have done on the way in yesterday and today. Boiling this morning. I need to replace my lighter-weight gloves, too.

I recall .anth saying somewhere how he heals really quickly and once walked to the doctor with a broken leg or something. I therefore propose he post a daily picture (not subject to Holgamatic cross-processing colour-knackery) on this thread to demonstrate this ability.

Been showing a bit of shin pretty much all winter if that counts? It sure baffles me, I have been wearing long troosers for months!

"Nowt to do with being 'hard as nails' "

Do you display your heritage by wearing only a T shirt in winter?

(and perhaps shorts)

I was wondering that Cyclingmollie, but it's not as intense as I think that would be - more just a dull ache. Might have bruised one or two.

I've broken, torn, popped and twisted enough things in my life that this is basically an inconvenience. Nowt to do with being 'hard as nails' (though think that if you want, it reflects well on me!), and more to do with being daft enough to have worse things to put it into perspective against...

Just found a scrape on my right thigh as well (presumably the bars).

Interestingly, as I usually find to be the case, I had a number of people ask if I was okay - never found that to be the case in the 'affluent' areas.

Ah, you can take the boy oot the cooncil estate...

Ironic in that it wasn't on a bad piece of road, caused by a pothole or anything like that, nor by a bit of poor driving, cycling or walking...

Heading down to join the Innocent in Bingham as I do every morning, going round the roundabout (the correct way - I do see a lot of people cut it off, seems pointless to me) the front wheel suddenly slides on a shiny bit of tar used to line a repaired bit of road. I actually think I might juuuuuust have saved this, but I'll never know as I then whalloped the roadworks sign which was lying face down in the road just after the repair.

One skinned knee, slightly skinned shin, and pulling my left arm in so as not to break it (I've learned from my Cycle Speedway days of shattered elbows) the left side of my chest has taken a thump (I can now genuinely say "It only hurts when I laugh", although it also hurts when I reach for something, cough, move...).

Pah.

Anyway, chicks dig scars.
