<description>&#60;p&#62;@Mabs It's George Street/St Andrews Square that they always want the free parking on. Unfortunately, it's also those very streets that would benefit from being car free to create an attractive &#34;continental&#34; atmosphere that might encourage more people into the centre of town in the evening.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I've never quite understood why UK shops stubbornly stick to the 9-5 opening hours. Surely the majority of potential customers are at work between 9 and 5, so ain't going to be shopping. Why not open from 12 to 8, say?

<description>&#60;p&#62;I dont see much reference to getting street performers there either. There just isn't a good pitch on princess street, not for a decent size show. Silver and bucket man are the only two I see and those are walk-past shows.

<description>&#60;p&#62;A few too many references to parking there to bring the folk in. I wasn't even aware there was any on street parking in the vicinity of Princes Street.&#60;br /&#62;
Mind you, as a nation we're lazy b*s who drive to the shops around the corner so perhaps mentioning people using public transport would put them off?&#60;br /&#62;
I can see it appealing to those who work all day and wish to get stuff after work perhaps.
