There are about 100 really old bricks sitting in a neat pile at the top of Cranston Street, just off the Royal Mile, waiting to be picked up for the dump. These are not the regular size bricks. I should imagine anyone taking them away would be welcome to them.

...Preston Grange too. I was distracted by the thought of beer.

...and to be fair there are three fibreglass cows standing beside that wall so the bricks aren't what immediately catches your eye.

You were obviously "noticing" in all the wrong places!

When we were in The Goth the other day we noticed a lack of bricks.

Mind you we could have a thread on sandstone... I was wondering whether the Gothenburg used Locharbriggs...? (as used on Kelvingrove Gallery in Glasgow and the Kings in Edinburgh I think)

Portobello brick = Abercorn brick & tile works. I'm not sure what they stamped their bricks with though.

I'd also hazard a guess that there are thousands of 1920s - 1950s brick-built houses across Edinburgh that incorporate Niddrie brick.

OT?

How can it be - it's about our new favourite topic and in the General Edinburgh section (and it mentions CEC).

"They previously stated the school was one of the last remaining buildings built from Niddrie brick, however, council officials have confirmed that it is in fact made from Portobello brick"
