A: Trike.

Was the correct answer for me today. Of course, mudguards would've been pleasant.

Really (black) icy this am (7am) in Eskbank so I came in to work by bus. It looks nice now from my office window though (:<). This plus the snow on Wednesday and meetings on other days means that I haven't cycled since Saturday. With the forecast for the weekend, I am starting to feel quite glum.

No snow in Fife but saw it on the way in once in West Lothian. Explained why it was so cold even though the sun was out.

Picked the wrong day to go the cramond route today. No snow on any hard surfaces, but the wind was awful was averaging about 12mph on the flat bit you usually flee down.

AWas overtaken by someone on a snazzy Wilier roadbike with red tyres. Declined the challenge as the chap had large thighs and seemed to be cutting through the wind with little effort.

Got a bit slushier at airport-ville, cure phenomena where each lamppost had a little strip of snow behind it where its shadow had lain.

I've not cycled for over a week as I've had a cold and when I last cycled in I was coughing all week as a result.
A collegue has just taken possession of a nice combination or both Road/MBT a Ridley Xbow. Looks like a road bike but up close has nobbly tyres and room for propper mudguards (not theose biro type plastic things with one appears to throw away half way round the ride). Looks realy nice! (I'm a little green with envy).

Thanks all - agree roads very sloppy and wet, and traffic definitely bad -- especially around Melville Drive, but problems mainly lorries rather than cars. Sigh.

Dear Surly

I would like to echo Min's comments on her thanks for your work. I have not ridden to work today as i am at home but my ride home last night in the rain and wind was made perversly pleasurable by your fine steel triangles.

Main roads were fine, surfacewise, if very wet and filthy.

Got a visitation from the inner-tube faeries at Tollcross, at least I got to see some fire engines while I made neccessary repairs! (Sorry Kirst, didn't get any photos). Was cursing taking the singlespeed as the back wheel is a bolt-in with chain tentioning screws.

Perhaps it's because I was later than usual due to my tyre pressure failure, but traffic along Broomhouse was appalling. Lots of construction type / skip lorries and cars all over the place trying to force their way into the bus lane. And I seemed to have every light turn red on me... Oh well. Lived to tell the tale and still got to work a lot faster than any cars did.

I pondered three wheels but rode the Brompton today. Plenty of grip on the main roads, but even 1/4" of snow was being rapidly compressed to icy slush by vehicles on the minor roads. I don't expect the snow to last beyond lunchtime if the sun raises the air temperature a degree or two.

Main roads were all ok but slushy verges/unused bits of road requiring a bit of care, my fast downhill was completed slowly, side winds road tyres and slush is not a confidence inspiring combination! :-o

The main roads around Stenhouse don't seem to have been gritted but once I got to Gorgie the surface had improved either treated or the sun had helped.

@SRD - Main roads in the Grange are totally fine, I drove today (no choice) and even side roads were ok first thing if you took it easy - even in my german rear wheel drive (renowned for being useless in the winter).
