Well Edinburgh is traditionally a bit tweedy anyway. So why not? Who will organise it though after last year's damp squib?

Well. I now have my get up (put together for another tweed purpose, but with cycling in mind too).

Edinburgh Tweed/Tartan Run never got anywhere, did it? Yet. I mean, Glasgow has one, that should be incentive enough!

Hmmm. So can we go back to the original plan mooted here/ Tartan and Tweed ride etc. Sounded spiffing :) Or would that be legally forbidden? We had someone suggest we organise one on the Greener Leith Facebook page, so perhaps we could put some money/volunteer time in if it could be routed through the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership. Would be nice to tie in with Bike Week too.

I'm being euphemistic because there was apparently some legal wrangling. I don't want to make things worse by repeating something I shouldn't, but thought the cancellation should at least be posted here. If you bump into Jez I'm sure he'll explain.

BTW any of you following this may have noticed the website went down, and its all gone a bit quiet. I contacted Jez and found out that there is no longer an organized tweed ride on Sunday, for unfortunate bureaucratic reasons. They hope that something can be rearranged when the red tape has been cut.

Ho hum, looks like nice weather for cycling, I'll just nip out on the bike anyway (tho probably not in Edinburgh this weekend)

Hey Kim if you want the 'sponsored by Ardbeg' bit there's the Ride of the Falling Rain in Islay each August - stops half way round at the Old Kiln Cafe at Ardbeg, sets off again in a slightly less straight line. Great fun.

There is DEFINITELY a ride happening on 2nd May, starting from 21st Century Kilts on Thistle Street.

chdot will remember the owner, Howie from the VisitScotland event last year. This was to highlight Blackberry France's 'lesser known things to do in Edimbourg'. Laid Back bike or trike tour is one such thing apparently. We had to meet 15 'fashionistas' from French Elle, Marie Claire etc. We allowed them to have a shot on two trikes and a bike for about 40 mins. Some did have bikes back in France so were up for the challenge of sitting on a trike and moving their legs. Others preferred shopping and eating so found the fresh air of Holyrood Park not to their taste.

Best bit was when chdot showed the guy from Blackberry how an iPhone could get pics from the event up on the web while he was still talking.
The kilt shop guy found that recumbancy and kilt wearing are not compatible! He was warned but is a keen cyclist so had to have a go. Has supplied kilts to Vin Diesel and other popular entertainers.

I don't think two events of a similar nature within two weeks would work, so it makes sense to join forces. Looking at the London Tweed Ride it very much comes out of the tailoring trade, so it shouldn't be a surprise that tailors here want to get in on the act as it is in part about promoting Tweed. I wonder if they can be persuaded to move the date? Probably not.

Right, I've got a bit more info.

There is DEFINITELY a ride happening on 2nd May, starting from 21st Century Kilts on Thistle Street. The chap who seems to be organising it is from Islay, and recently sourced a tweed manufacturer on the island for Mosquito Bikes down south to get some tweed cycling jackets.

Two things flow from this: firstly, he's asked if we want to join forces, and secondly, it would be foolhardy, I would suggest, to hold another ride on the same theme just a week later!

Oh, and third thing, I'm not sure I'll make the 2nd...

"Get your tweed on

Following the success of last year’s Tweed Run in London, which inspired copycat events worldwide, the organisers have announced Saturday 10 April as the date for the 2010 event.

The ride will see hundreds of cyclists dressed in their best plus fours, Harris tweed and flat caps weave a leisurely 14 miles through central London, with a tea break in the park.

The ride will finish in Bishopsgate with a party, swing band and prizes for the best outfits. It’s free to enter and participants will be able to register online at the Tweed Run website."
