I can report that the railings are both inconvenient and tortuously pointless. In order to get it at the right angle I had to turn left at the pedestrian crossing (as opposed to crossing the road) then turn right into the lane. (Someone with a more agile type of bike would be able to charge it, of course).

And then at the other end, the railings were easily circumvented by riding over the thoughtfully smoothed surface to the side of the path. Very Edinburgh.

Just opposite there's an allegedly cyclable track, which is rather more Glentress than Innocent...

Of course, it *is* cyclable. It's not as hard as the Glentress black - just not what you're hoping for when you plot the route...

"following a route which proved to be... not as you'd expect."

As in 'more mud than path' or something else?

And the good thing is -

Anyone can fix OSM.

"have they really put full size railings across the route"

Think it's the photo- 'normal' two barrier chicane.

Wait, have they really put full size railings across the route? (from the everytrail photos). Notwithstanding that you can just ride round the side, surely this isn't much good if you've got the kids along or a trailer or recumbent.

Sigh. This *is* Edinburgh, eh?

Thanks guys.

It's amazing when you look on something like OSM and see all these links everywhere, none of which you're familiar with.

I have been bitten twice recently following a route which proved to be... not as you'd expect.

Can't find the thread - but aye, just head down King's Haugh (there are a couple of bikes painted on the road there) and you'll see the brand new tarmac pavement that cuts through to where the Innocent crosses Duddingston Road West.

I just noticed that Cyclestreets claims that it's possible to ride along King's Haugh and connect with the Innocent.

Streetview disagrees, showing only a large pile of building works.

Does this link exist? I'm thinking it might shave a few seconds off going to the lights on the main road.
