I was defrauded last year, as it happens, in just the same way (a £30 mobile top-up).

You'd think it would be just as easy for the mobile company to revoke the credit, making it pointless - but I guess they just use it ASAP.

Something similar happened with Lush, the cosmetics company, earlier this year I believe.

Bit scary! There seems to be so much card fraud around at the moment in various forms, I worry it's only a matter of time until I'm caught out too, though I've been lucky so far.

@kim - thanks.

I always use paypal on squiggle. But like Dave says perhaps just exposes me to paypal fraud. However that's never happened (yet).

I use PayPal where possible to avoid the potential pain of card fraud.

Of course, it opens up the possibility of PayPal fraud instead.

@kaputnik: A couple of years back there were some very long threads on a number of cycling forums about credit card fraud and Wiggle, but I haven't seen one recently.

Apparently Chain Reaction Cycles is now 'working around the clock' in inquiry to find out what happened.

Paypal is one of reducing this type of risk. Also some sites have bank operated security requiring passwords, eg mastercard secure

I thought this was going to be about Wiggle...

Is there something we should all know about Wiggle? I used it the other week!

My shiny new pedals came from PBK (apologies to LBSs, but I was after backwards delta-compatible ones that were hard to source)

Which I suppose is why one is always recommended to use a credit card rather than a debit card, for online purchasing.

Nothing obvious on the CRC website about it, though.

Eek - time to scrutinize your credit card statements if you've recently bought something from Chain Reaction:
