Popped along this morning to the Gorgie farmers market with the kids. We spent over a tenner on burgers and cakes. All tasted good and nice to have the backdrop of sporadic fiddle music played enthusiastically.

Was looking out for the tandem/tag along but must've been there at a different time!

There were chips (well, wedges) at Potato Day. There was good apple pie in Carnwath. Bronze medal winner in the 2010 Scottish Pie championships - alongside their Chicken Balmoral pie. The meat in the pies was 100% meat, but in sausage rolls was only 25% meat. Steak Ashit was also available as was a tattie scone in a roll and if you'd asked they probably would have put one of their pies in a roll. Coffee came out a proper machine in a nice glass cup - espresso looked like it had a good crema on it. A little bit of pastry light shining in the brownery* of South Lanarkshire.

* = there is no green. Just brown.

It was nice (except when the cheering spooked the horse and it skidded on the cobbles and nearly squashed the bike trailer holding sleeping infant).

Won't know how the produce stacks up until we've eaten it, but got free range eggs, a whole chicken, a half crown prince (squash) and some baked goods. Don't think it will replace my usual farmer's market, but it was nice to check out new producers.
