I didn't need to use normal brakes coming down the steepest hill in town on Thursday. The 4 yr old in the trailer was a sufficient air brake. His mum wouldn't be impressed.

This afternoon in the park I made a point of telling the 7 yr old to steer away from the muddy puddle so you can guess where he landed.

that is still not looking much like the MD

The grey mud on WoL has been slightly better this week, though my bike is quite grey and muddy, with the wind I have been seeking the shelter of the valley.

Better photo?

As regards this thread, work on the track carries on apace. We passed a couple of diggers on the track yesterday. The surface is a pretty reasonable compacted grey gravel - much better than the WoL surface.

I stopped pedalling coming down the Granites and had to get pedalling again when the speed dropped below 5mph as I ran out of steerage way. Fit cyclists on road bikes were struggling - badly - so I can only imagine the determination it took to get as far as Broxburn in that weather, with nowhere to hide from the wind.

Hope the run went well if it went!
I lost patience and complained to British Waterways yesterday, got a nice email back from the waterways manager stating that they plan to start repairs in the next two weeks.
I await further developments with interest!

Hmm - we were hoping to avoid roads this time around (although we have a much larger project in mind later this year where they can't be avoided).

I guess that, between the three of us, we should manage to circumnavigate the obstacle.

Edit - just had a look at the bigger photos on your flickr page. Hmmmmm......

Determined would be a good summary. You may recall having seen her on "Beyond Boundaries -Across the Andes" on BBC a few years back.

Just had a quick look at her website, she seems a very determined young lady. I don't know how bad her mobility issues are but it might be worth a recce to see if she could get over the obstacle with a bit of assistance?
If you need any more pics/video/info from this end pm me and I'll provide anything I can.
Best of luck either way,

Nothing flat I know of :-/ Off the towpath just before the barriers takes you up towards Glen Village, you can then go down towards Falkirk on the main road then double back left towards Falkirk High Station. from the lower car park there you can access the towpath the other side of the tunnel to continue towards the wheel. There may well be better options but I don't know them I'm afraid :-(

Well the canal towpath has been boarded off as being blocked for weeks now with no sign of any activity just East of the Falkirk High Station access point, so today I did a little recce...
Turns out the landslip is just east of the tunnel and though muddy is passable with care if you don't mind a little bit of walking.
Oh and you may get a little muddy...!
