<description>&#60;p&#62;If history is a guide to the future (a big if) there may well be cheap petrol then. This chart &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.inflationdata.com/inflation/images/charts/Oil/Gasoline_inflation_chart.htm&#34;&#62;(US Gas Prices)&#60;/a&#62; shows inflation adjusted &#34;gas&#34; prices are the same now as they were in the 1940s and by no means at historical highs.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If you asked a 40s petrolium engineer how long reserves would last, they would have said ~20 years tops, much the same as now. Fact is, it's not worth exploring if you have that much in the bank.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;So, if you want to price motorists out of towns, it'll probably have to be tax that does it...

<description>&#60;p&#62;They obviously know something you and I don't.  They are assuming there will be any petrol in 2050, I suppose that is conceivable, only forty years away. A lot can happen in that time, and none of this might be an issue then. How's about just ban all cars from city centres, starting very soon?
