Edinburgh Taxis... well I'll leave others to comment on the longstanding allegations of, erm, "interesting" connections with the council and a freestyle attitude to some laws (as a courier they were the group of drivers most likely to make an illegal and dangerous U turn in front of me, I've not seen any improvement since "retiring" from that game)

As to the other rent a quote "groups", one or two loudmouths whose opinions even the mainstream motoring organisations distance themselves from.. just because they have the ear of the press does not make their opinion worthwhile, after all, how many members are there of the Association of British Drivers? Ten, twenty, or one or two??

Why should the Police announce that they are enforcing existing laws? If these cameras catch anyone then it's their own fault for breaking the limit / jumping the light. It's not the Police's fault for not warning them that the law is being enforced with cameras.

Why do some "motoring groups" think that the law should only be enforced in a small number of designated areas by dayglo speed cameras announced on maps / tom-toms / by signs? The law applies everywhere to all road users (us pedalists too). It's not difficult or scandalous and it's remarkably easy to comply with.

I can appreciate that the Taxi drivers are upset, as obviously the highway code and road traffic laws don't apply to them.

The only people who are angry are the ones driving through signalled junctions (that could change at any time) at over 30mph. They don't get any sympathy from me...

I don't understand the idea that cameras should have to be signposted otherwise they don't work. They blatantly do - if for no other reason than once people speed through them enough times, they get banned from the road (and hence can't speed).

Interesting that the people who 'vote'in the polls are obviously of a different mind than those who 'comment' in the forum.
