Is AA yellow the right yellow though, they're more an orangey yellow than jersey yellow.

Sorry, I know that's an old joke but couldn't resist.

Bloody typical. Free yellow helmets for Larndarners (won't even go with Boris bike blue!).

Where's my free Giro Ionos Lance Armstrong edition racing lid? It'll save me £169 if the AA are so concerned with my safety and well being that they see fit to hand me one out.

The AA are handing out free helmets and Hi-Viz because "97% of AA members want cyclists to wear helmets" as they would feel less bad about hitting a cyclist if said cyclist was wearing a lid. It has nothing to do with road safety or promoting cycling.

However, not all is lost, the CTC were handing out free copies of the Highway Code to drivers at the same location and Carlton Reid has a suggested that the RAC do a similar promo, which is a much better idea...

Apparently 16,000 were asked. I'm not sure what that is as a proportion?

PS. You'd wear a helmet that is left on a stand at dog-leg height 24/7 (when it's not being rubbed all over sweaty people with various skin and/or parasitic complaints), really and truly?

Braver man than I, that's for sure.

Still, with apparently just two (ultimately non-serious) head injuries after 10 million KM ridden in central London, you can see why the AA would be worried that the "wrong message" is getting out.

@Dave, I must be in that 3% who were not asked about if cyclist should wear helmets, I have never been asked this Q by the AA.

After the staggering cost of those Boris Bikes, they should come with free helmets.

Sigh, (lack of) accident rates which seem to prove non-provision of h****ts on Boris bikes is a non-issue and the AA waste loadsa money on this*.
I'm getting rather hacked off with the AA, I pay them to recover me if I break down, not to be a political campaigning organisation, or indeed to spend the funds provided by members on this sort of thing. As to their 97% of members, I certainly wasn't asked!! >:-<

* I have no objection to anyone wearing helmets on Boris bikes or any other bikes, I just resent my money being used to give them away!

They're targeting the Boris Bikes, because so many people are using them for casual cycling and "97% of AA members want cyclists to wear helmets", the two being more or less mutually exclusive (unless you buy a helmet from a corner shop near your spontaneous bike hire route?)

Whats wrong with other cities. This appear to be a stunt just to get their name in the news. Happy to see more publicity of cycling though.
