"So is this now the "what does the SNP mean for cycling" thread?"

No

Reason 1 - deserves a new thread.

Reason 2 - depends on final seat numbers.

Obviously SNP will be able to form a Government easily and may not need any 'coalition partners' to get most votes through.

More interesting is the fact that there will be a significant number of new MSPs who may or may not be interesting in things like cycling.

If anyone knows any of the new crop please post any intelligence on 'cycle friendliness' - and perhaps send them a 'well done, hope you'll support measures that encourages walking and cycling'.

Saw several others (coincidentally also on bike) also dropping off postal ballots at stations this am.

My second vote went to Margo.

I've been opening postal votes this week, mainly because when they asked for volunteers they said there might be overtime. Unfortunately the postal turnout has been very low and there was no overtime at all. >:-( I was only opening, not counting, but plenty of people have skipped voting in the referendum, and probably an equal number have used their list vote and their referendum vote but not their constituency vote. And I'm worried by the number of Edinburgh voters too stupid to understand "mark your ballot papers and put them in the small envelope, seal it, sign the declaration and put your date of birth on it, but don't detach it, and then stick the whole lot in the big envelope."

Seems a good strategy to me.

Earlier on this morning the Guardian had a 'how did you vote' blog, and all of the early comments were from Scotland and they had all voted green on their second vote. Me too. Anyone out there who didn't?

Wasn't pleased to see a BNP option on the ballot, but democracy and all that I guess. Certainly hadn't bothered putting up any campaign signs!

Streetview shows no cycle parking at my polling station; disappointing, considering it's a primary school and ought to at least have one little bike shed tucked in a corner of the playground. Many railings, but they might be occluded by posters.

The Tory board outside the polling station also had "NO2AV" on it. Which I found a smidge hypocritical as they seem happy to rely on proportional representation returning them the lion's share of their seats in the Scottish Parliament. Cake. Eat it. Can't have.

It's not looking good for the SNP. I voted for them last time around because I wanted to poke Labour in the eye, but despite having some policies I wholeheartedly approve of (scrap the trams, ahem, ahem) their lack of vision beyond short-term populism dismays me.

Our constituency is a straightforward tactical between labour and lib-dem, but for the second vote, I really don't know. Green maybe.

'modal shift' to me is the sort of fudge that allows you to say you're making progress by saying there's now "x% cycle journeys" despite the fact the total number of car journeys have increased (just at a lesser rate than the number of cycle journeys)

I asked a question re climate change at a recent hustings. My bit, about what should be done to encourage individuals, got diluted a little as the question was merged with another about what the Government should do. But the Green candidate, Alison Johnstone, did mention cycling, stating the added benefits to health.
