I have a Co-Pilot looking for a new home. It'll need a new (Blackburn EX-1) rack, as the original one is too worn* to sell.

RJ

* - pannier fittings have worn grooves in some of the struts

"Hmmm...I've always assumed trailer would be warmer than bike seat since the major factor is windchill."

I think there is an 'it depends' factor. (Plus you might be right!)

BUT main point is that adult/cyclist is likely to be warmer than 'passenger'. Also adult probably has more 'technical' clothing.

At least it should encourage tandem stoker or trailer-bike rider to do some work!

One thing many parents underestimate is how cold 'passive' kids can get.

Hmmm...I've always assumed trailer would be warmer than bike seat since the major factor is windchill.

Anyway, that reminds me, I'm selling 2 sets of outerwear guaranteed to keep small people warm and dry on bike seats:

One pair size 3T girl's wind and waterproof (goretex) bib trousers, with warm insulated lining - made for North American winters - ie well below freezing). These are in blue with a floral pattern 'periwinkle blue'. from LLBean 'Katahdin' range.

4T Jacket and bib trousers in 'Wild Berry' (pink) same as above - Katahdin, goretex/insulate - very warm for bikeseat. My daughter wore these on bikeseat and extended sledding/snowball fights etc over last two winters and never once complained of cold or wet.

Also very worn but very warm toddlers US size 7 pink snowboots to match above snowsuit, with two pairs of warm felt liners.

If anyone is interested, let me know!

"Not much point to cycling with them regularly if they're not comfortable/happy"

Don't worry, it was very rare occasions that I had a bag that was that inconvenient.

"comfortable/happy" - One thing many parents underestimate is how cold 'passive' kids can get. Not so much of a problem in kids' seats as they tend to be sheltered and near some active body heat, but sitting in a trailer deserves extra layers.

Or ignore the complaints...

My daughter used to fall asleep, even on short journeys - that's what the straps are for!

From the back, her head 'falling over the side' must have looked a bit alarming.

A driver once stopped me and told me how irresponsible I was.

Same daughter did LEJoG last year.

Stepdoh, the only real design flaw of the copilot is that you can't attach a pannier at same time, so you would need to use a rucksack or courier bag, and then transfer it to rack after removing seat. How convenient this is depends on how long your nursery run, I guess. Small-framed riders may find it tricky to wear rucksack when child is in seat (or child may complain). Tall riders won't have a problem with this.

Bobike mini is very easy to pop on and off. The bracket stays attached to your stem and the seat just pulls off.

Agree 100% on the copilot; I could do it no problem. Wife struggled, so I always did the nursery run. I loved it. Sadly both my girls now too big for it, must get it on to Freecycle/eBay

Stepdoh, even when they say 'easy on/off' you have to try it on your own bike. we had a copilot, which Mr SRD found easy to get on/off his bike, while I struggled everytime with mine. May have had something to do with our racks, which appeared identical, but must have had some slight angles different. gradually mine got easier too, which i think confirms that my rack was just slightly askew.

I have 2 Bobike mini childs bike seats for sale. They fit children from 9 to 15 kgs and are the type that clamp round your handlebar stem. these are the ones http://www.dotbike.com/p/8390?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=FGL one of them is missing the cushioned pad and I even have the winscreen for one of them ( a bit scratched but I never used it it's just sat in my messy garage)

I loved the fact the child sits between your arms and you can chat away as you ride, also great weight distrobution. I'm looking for £20 for the one without the pad and £25 for the other one. you can choose whether or not you'd like the windscreen free of charge.
